FAQs

We’ve got all the answers!

Here at BBS Shutter Co., we try to make the process of ordering and fitting your internal wooden window shutters as carefree as possible. Naturally, our customers often have questions about how the whole process works. Here’s a selection of those most frequently asked. However, if you have any other queries whatsoever, please don’t hesitate to call us on 01737 202 809 and we’ll soon provide you with the answer!

Why should I choose BBS Shutter Co.?

We are one of the very few shutter companies backed by a traditional building firm. Many of our customers get very excited when they realise that shutters are just the tip of the iceberg of our offerings and often go on to become customers of Bradley Building Services. Also, because BBS Shutter Co. is a subsidiary, we do not have the overheads of larger shutter companies and are able to offer very competitive prices.

How soon can I get an appointment?

We can generally get to someone within a few days. Once we are there, the length of a survey will vary depending on the number of windows that need to be measured but usually takes around half an hour.

Is there any style of window that cannot take a shutter?

No. When there’s a will, there’s a way!

How long will my shutters take to be made and delivered?

On average, 10 weeks.

What's the difference between hardwood and permawood shutters?

Hardwood is a naturally occurring material, we use timber from sustainable Paulownia and Basswood forests for our timber range. These timbers are the superior material for interior shutters due to their characteristics…lightweight, durable, warp resistant and ideal for milling and sanding.

Permawood is a manmade waterproof material ideal for use in wet or high humidity areas such as; bathrooms, saunas, utility rooms and kitchens.

What form of guarantee do you offer?

We offer a three year guarantee on all our shutter work.

How should I care for/clean my shutters?

Use a feather duster periodically to keep your shutters free of dust. Should they need cleaning, begin by using a clean dry cloth to remove any dirt, for more stubborn stains use a damp cloth but be sure to wipe down afterwards with a dry cloth again to remove any moisture as this will avoid any annoying watermarks. Try to avoid using cleaning products or solutions that could potentially damage the surfaces.

Can I order my shutters in a custom colour?

Yes! We offer a bespoke colour matching service for a small extra fee. Unfortunately, as we need to send a colour sample to our factory this may increase our lead time slightly.

Will fitting shutters make much mess?

We may need to use a drill for the odd fixing or make minor adjustments that could cause some sawdust but we will do our utmost to keep any mess to an absolute minimum! Our fitters will come armed with plenty of dust sheets, vacuum cleaner and cleaning products and will make sure to leave your home as they found it or better.

How long does it take to install my shutters?

This would, again, depend on the amount of shutters to be fitted and the style of your windows but we can generally have the average home fitted out with shutters within one day! We will be happy to give an approximate fitting duration at your survey.

Can I fit the shutters myself?

Absolutely! We have a free guide that you can download that will take you through the process of measuring and fitting. However, we would recommend that you use an experienced fitter for more complex windows such as bay windows, special shapes or tracked shutters.

Do you supply references?

We would be more than happy to provide references on request.
